Publication Design

OR

Objective

To create a booklet based on research completed by researchers at the DAN School of Drama & Music, Queen’s University, in collaboration with The H’art Centre: Inclusive Arts for All Abilities. The toolkit outlines best practices for offering accessible community-based music and movement classes for older adults. The booklet is used by community members who are offering classes to their peers in music and movement.
I used accessibility standards to create a layout that is clean and has consistent flow. The information is grouped logically, and I included call outs for easy referencing.

Summit Report

Objective

I was hired by OPENCITY Inc to design a report based on an event hosted by the Canadian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (CPIA). The report needed to be easy to navigate and follow the AODA guidelines for accessibility. The only design requirements that were provided in the brief were the brands colours, logos and the photos from the event.
Drawing inspiration from the circular elements in the organization’s event invitations, I incorporated circles throughout the report—using them for the photo frames of the speakers and as graphic accents alongside key pull quotes. This created a cohesive visual language while directing attention to important sections.
To enhance readability, I structured the layout using a three column grid selected a highly legible typeface, and ensured consistent line spacing. These decisions optimized clarity and accessibility for a diverse audience.
The report was delivered on time, within budget, and with minimal revisions. The final design was well received, with positive feedback on both the artwork and layout.
